Choo Choo

My dear Zachary is obsessed with trains.

Now, I know that it is completely normal for a little boy to love trains at the age of two, cut I had no idea how far he could take it. Yesterday, in the course of about 20 minutes, he went on the following progression:

  1. Carried around Thomas the Train lunchbox.
  2. Saw the picture on the lunchbox and went to find the puzzle we have that matches it.
  3. While working on the puzzle, he has a sudden desire to wear his train shirt (that we wore the day before). Luckily I have been trying to stay on top of the laundry and it happens to be in the dryer. He opens the dryer and goes through the clothes until he finds the shirt. He insists that I put it on him.
  4. The next stop is that he asks to watch his Baby Einstein movie, "On the Go," because it has a section on trains. To this I say no, as we have watched a couple of shows already that day, and the fit begins.
  5. How do I stop the fit? I encourage him to go to the basement to play with his train table--guess what? It worked.

So, as you can see this little boy wants to surround himself with trains. He even has a blanket in his bed that is there because it has the ABC's on it and for T it has a train. It's small, but it's there. He calls it his train blanket. He gets mad if we go under train tracks and there is no train on them. He seems to feel that I can control the train schedule (by the way, if anyone knows how to do that, let me know) and will actually cry about it. There is one road on the way to my mom's that follows a train track. If we see a train on it, he is devastated if I have to stop at a light and the train goes out of view.

Are we at obsession or just heathy interest?

Hm, trains may be preferrable to princesses...in my house Hailey always gets to be the princess, Mike (daddy) always gets to be the prince, and I always get to be their mother. Thanks... Except when I get to be Prudence, if Hailey is currently Cinderella. Even better...

There is no end to the princess mania!

...ah well, don't they say that obsession with hobbies, etc, may indicate a high intellect?
